1) Majority Leader Schumer Floor Remarks & Talkers On The Release Of The Omnibus Appropriations Bill:

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today spoke on the Senate floor on the release of government funding legislation that includes many important priorities, such as the Electoral Count Act, support for the people of Ukraine, making health care more affordable, and more. Last night, congressional appropriators reached an agreement and released a bipartisan, bicameral Omnibus Appropriations bill to fund the federal government for the fiscal year 2023.

The final package will be an aggressive investment in American families, workers, and national defense, giving our troops a raise, providing help for Ukraine, and fulfilling Democrats’ promise to defend democracy through the Electoral Count Act.

On the healthcare front, the omnibus package will make health care more affordable and more expansive for millions of Americans, permanently extend postpartum coverage for mothers on Medicaid and CHIP, take a swing against the mental health and opioid crises, invest in telehealth, and support rural and low-income hospitals.

On the manufacturing and science front, the omnibus package secures the first major down payment in building the tech hubs authorized in the CHIPS and Science Act, the largest dollar increase for the National Science Foundation of all time, funding for STEM workforce training that will spur chip growth across the country, and billions to support universities, national labs, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and workers necessary for the U.S. to remain technologically competitive on the world stage.

The omnibus will also fully fund provisions of the PACT Act to support veterans suffering from burn pit exposure, secure the largest increase in Pell Grants in over a decade, bring Indian health services to parity with all other federal health care providers, and increase child care and housing access.

To end a historic Congress filled with bipartisan achievements, the Senate should act on the omnibus with due speed and cooperation before government funding runs out on Friday and will take the first vote towards passage as soon as this afternoon.
