Republican Government Shutdown Could Delay Disaster Assistance,
Weaken Community Safety for New Yorkers
MAGA House Republicans continue to march New Yorkers towards a government shutdown that could delay nearly 2,000 long-term disaster recovery projects, including 214 in New York; undermine community preparedness by preventing fire departments from accessing necessary funding; and allow FEMA’s relief funding to continue to dwindle.
“As congressional Republicans like George Santos, Nick LaLota, Andrew Garbarino, Anthony D'Esposito, Nicole Malliotakis, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, Elise Stefanik, Brandon Williams, Nick Langworthy, and Claudia Tenney ram our country towards a government shutdown to advance their extreme agenda, New Yorkers' lives are on the line. New York's emergency preparedness and long-term disaster recovery could be compromised because House Republicans are unwilling to put New Yorkers' safety over their MAGA political games,” New York State Democratic Party Chair Jay S. Jacobs said. “With less than 2 days until a Republican shutdown, the GOP continues to use New York families’ livelihoods as a partisan bargaining chip.”
